We closed out the year with wildlife drama right out the dining room window. The morning of New Year's Eve, Sarah looked up from her breakfast and spotted a red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in the yard. It had ambushed a squirrel at the front feeder, then chased it down in the side yard. The fox carried its quarry across the street and disappeared into the woods.
A few minutes later, another fox appeared in the same spot as the first, then followed its trail across the road. Not long after, we saw another (although we can't prove it was a different one) skirting the yard.
This was our first fox sighting in the four years we've lived here. My guess is that Cadi's scent has always kept them away. We're hoping they'll be back -- for squirrel control and entertainment value!
