It's the end of the school year, with lots happening. Sarah's class took a field trip to Skinner State Park and climbed Mt. Holyoke. I went along as chaperone. It was a rainy day, unfortunately, but not a washout. We started at the Half-way House, learning about the tram that used to take visitors up the mountain and playing geology games to reinforce classroom learning about igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock.
Then, we walked up the auto road to the top (not without complaint -- and it wasn't the 54-year-old mom doing the griping). Sadly, we were not rewarded with the usual stellar view. The peak was socked in. The kids enjoyed clamoring over the rocky summit, though, and none were lost over the edge. A successful outing in my book.
Last week, Sarah's class presented their state projects to their families and other classes. Sarah chose Minnesota, of course.
