The start of school this year was markedly different from the last. It was all about anticipation, with very little trepidation (on Sarah's or my part). We were both ready to say goodbye to summer and embrace the promise of fall. Since I'm a geek from way back, three of my favorite words have always been "Back to School," and I think Sarah feels the same.
With the exception of the bus (which was still running late two weeks into the year), the transition has gone incredibly smoothly. Sarah is in not only a new grade with a new (highly lauded) teacher, but a new school. The sixty-year-old elementary school was expanded and refurbished. After spending the last two years crammed into the hundred-year-old former high school, the teachers and students have been rewarded with a beautiful building full of light and space. I am so thankful that Sarah gets to go to school here.

Students now eat lunch in the bright, open cafeteria instead of their classrooms. |
