Sarah made it easy for me this Halloween. She decided to be a princess, and she already had a beautiful dress that she received a couple of Christmases ago. It happens to be the same color as Elsa's in Frozen, so she looked like many other little girls this year, even though she's the only girl in America who hasn't seen the movie.
She wore it to church the Sunday before Halloween and went trick-or-treating for UNICEF.
She had half-days for parent-teacher conferences the 29th, 30th, and 31st, so we had plenty of time to prepare for Halloween itself. One afternoon, thanks to Sid the Science Kid, we had to make green slime from cornstarch, water, and green paint.
Then, it was time to carve the jack-o'-lantern. She drew the face; Dad did the cutting; and she and Nick cleaned out the seeds.
Halloween night, I helped staff our church's community celebration, so Dad took her to walk in the parade, visit the church and fire department, and do a little trick-or-treating. She collected 29 pieces of candy and left one on the counter for me, along with a sweet note, for when I got home.
