Thanksgiving is usually a low-key holiday for us. We have my mom over, watch the dog show, and enjoy a traditional meal. Don and Sarah watch football in the basement, while Mom and I relax in the living room.
This year, of course, was different. Because of COVID, Mom stayed home; she and George had dinner the day after. The dog show was on, with everyone but the dogs wearing masks and human and canine cut-outs in the audience instead of real people. We still enjoyed a wonderful meal, prepared mostly by Don, but it was just the three of us. And, of course, there was football.
Like many other families, we had a Zoom call to connect with those far away -- Rachel, Matt, Reid, and the Rodriguezes. I hope this will become a new tradition.
It was a mix of old and new. As always, we gave thanks for our myriad blessings and felt especially grateful that our family hasn't suffered as so many others have during this pandemic year.
